Palazzo dei Diamanti: new features looking ahead to the reopening

We are almost there!

It is almost time for the first cultural event of 2023: the reopening of the Palazzo dei Diamanti, which will officially take place on 18 February. At last, after a complex restoration, maintenance and modernisation project that has involved the building from mid-2021 to today. Palazzo Diamanti will return for the benefit of everyone, from the public to the operators of the cultural system. The reopening of Diamanti coincides with the inauguration of the extraordinary exhibition 'Rinascimento a Ferrara. Ercole de' Roberti and Lorenzo Costa'. The exhibition brings together an important artistic capital from all over the world, which somehow returns 'home' and rekindles the lights on the extraordinary season of the Ferrara Workshop.

The restoration of the building entailed an enormous amount of structural work, and much of the work was enhanced with the aim of improving the museum's itinerary. This has occurred through the expansion of some present services and in parallel through the addition of others that were missing. The overall intention is to offer the public not only an exhibition space, but also a meeting place, enriched with events and initiatives, that will encourage the sharing of ideas and art.

We are talking about the creation of a dedicated refreshment area, and two bookshops, one of which is dedicated exclusively to the younger generation. There will also be a didactic and workshop room, an area designed for children to make their visit an all-embracing experience that does not end with a simple visit to the exhibitions. The area will host a vast and engaging programme of activities for schools of all grades and families.

Un Caffè per i Diamanti: the Palace's pop soul

The special feature of these additions concerns the opening of the café and the bookshops: the opening hours of these activities will be independent of the museum's opening hours. They will be independently accessible from the courtyard of the former Museum of the Risorgimento and Resistance, as well as at the end of the museum tour.

The purpose of the venue is to encourage dialogue, exchange and conviviality at the end of the exhibition tour, not only for visitors to the Diamanti, but for anyone wishing to enjoy Ferrara cuisine. The bar is defined by its managers as the pop soul of the palazzo and will be open from 7 am with tasty breakfasts and will remain open until the evening for lunches, aperitifs and dinners. The aim is to offer typical products from the territory, pampering the visitor with local cuisine, becoming an extension of the palace's beauty.

The Caffè dei Diamanti will open from the opening of the exhibition in February and will be ideally divided into two modes: ON and OFF. In the ON formula, the main activity will be to support and refresh visitors by guaranteeing the cafeteria service during all openings of the Palazzo dei Diamanti, both ordinary and extraordinary. While for the OFF alternative, opening will be guaranteed even when the museum is closed to the public, becoming a new reference point for fans of aesthetic and creative expression. There will be private events, brunches and evenings with tastings in the presence of live music, offering a relaxing and stimulating atmosphere. In addition, it is proposed as a venue for literary presentations, meetings with authors and events aimed at participation.
