New Year Concert by the Gino Neri Plectrum Orchestra
01 January 2025 ore 16:30 , Ferrara, Teatro Comunale Claudio Abbado
On January 1, 2025, at 4:30 PM, the New Year's Concert of the Gino Neri Plucked Orchestra will take place at the C. Abbado Municipal Theatre in Ferrara.
Featuring pieces that have always been part of the New Year’s tradition alongside others that reflect the orchestra’s own history, the music will allow the audience to begin 2025 with a sonic journey through various harmonies.
The first half, conducted by Maestro Francesco Zamorani, will commence with the notes of "The Caliph of Baghdad" by François-Adrien Boïeldieu. This will be followed by a tribute to Giordano Tunioli, the orchestra’s historian, with a suite of operettas composed by him in the summer of 1989. This piece was first presented at the 1990 New Year’s Concert and, thirty-five years later in 2025, will be performed once again on the same stage.
During this first half, the audience will also have the opportunity to listen to the renowned themes of "Once Upon a Time in the West," accompanied by the voice of Rachele Amore, a Sicilian singer who, at the age of ten, decided to pursue her dream, eventually graduating with honors and a distinction in the Jazz Singing program from the G. Frescobaldi Conservatory in Ferrara. To conclude this first part of the celebrations, a suite of five themes from Georges Bizet’s famous opera "Carmen" will be performed: Aragonaise, Habanera, Garde Montante, Intermezzo, and Les Toreadors.
The second half of the concert, conducted by Maestro Pierclaudio Fei, will open with "Pavane pour une infante défunte" by Maurice Ravel, dedicated to Princess De Polignac. Contrary to what the title might suggest, it does not depict a dance for a young deceased princess but refers to the composer’s attempt to describe a pavane that a young princess might have danced in the 1800s at the Spanish court.
The audience will continue this musical journey with notes from some of Johann Strauss Jr.’s most famous works: "Voices of Spring" and "On the Beautiful Blue Danube." Before concluding the New Year’s celebrations with two additional pieces by the same composer, "Egyptian March" and "Emperor Waltz," the orchestra will delight its audience with "Serenata Siciliana" by Francesco Musmarra.
