THE EXPERIENCE

For over 500 years Ferrara has been a land of welcome for the Jewish people. Even today a small community lives in the streets of the oldest historic centre. Precisely because of its strong link with Italian Jewish history, since 2017 the city has also been home to the Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah.

Your experience discovering the MEIS and Jewish Ferrara will start from the courtyard of the majestic Castello Estense from where your guide, crossing via Centoversuri, will accompany you to the MEIS, housed within the city's former prison complex. A very precise choice, which has transformed a place of exclusion into a place of union and inclusiveness. Together with your guide, you will retrace the more than 2,000 years of history of the Jewish community in Italy, through a captivating, well-articulated and multimedia-rich layout.

Once your visit to the museum is over, again together with your guide, you will reach the nearby Jewish quarter located in one of the most fascinating parts of the medieval area, with its quiet, winding and cosy streets. As you walk through the streets of what was once the city ghetto, you will feel the echoes of Bassani's stories, reliving an era so distant yet so evident and clear in the history of Ferrara.

Once payment has been made, the meeting with the guide takes place 15 minutes before the indicated time inside the courtyard of the Castello Estense.

MEIS - Entrance fees
Full price: € 10,00
Reduced price: € 8,00 (from 6 to 18 years old, university students, affiliated categories, MyFE card)
Free for children under 6 years of age, disabled persons with an accompanying person, journalists and tour guides with ID, ICOM members, military personnel in uniform. If at least 15 people participate in the visit, the ticket price will be € 6.00 per person.
