THE EXPERIENCE
The "Renaissance in Ferrara. Ercole de Roberti and Lorenzo Costa" exhibition explores the careers of two illustrious masters who expressed the strength and richness of the most splendid historical and cultural era of the Este duchy at the highest levels.
The visit, accompanied by fascinating anecdotes of a qualified guide, winds through the evocation of the climate of Schifanoia, which saw the debut of Ercole dè Roberti, the works of his maturity - including the wonderful portraits of Giovanni II Bentivoglio and his wife Ginevra Sforza, from Washington - and the natural relay to Lorenzo Costa, authentic heir of de Roberti's language.
And, alongside the two protagonists, excellent colleagues, such as Mantegna, Bellini, Maineri, Cosmè Tura, to enrich and contextualize the exhibition itinerary.
Copious are loans from museums and collections from all over the world, including the precious Madonna and Child from Berlin, the luminous Holy Family of Toledo and the four panels from the Stories of the Argonauts series, leaving all together the National Gallery in London for the first time.
The tour also becomes an opportunity to admire the new look of the marvelous Palazzo dei Diamanti, one essential place to go for those who are in Ferrara: closed for almost two years due to restoration and expansion works, the Palace now boasts new exhibition spaces, and skilfully studied lighting and an unprecedented fusion with the former Museum of the Risorgimento. In short, a container that is not only a casket, but an art masterpiece itself.
