Discover the events in Certosa
Ferrara's Monumental Charterhouse is a veritable open-air museum where time, far from standing still, flows hand in hand with the city's cultural life.
Here in this paradise, located in the centre of the city's Renaissance extension, you can discover unmissable initiatives to get in touch with the city of Ferrara, its past and present.
A week to discover the Charterhouse
Ferrara's Certosa Monumentale will once again be part of the WDEC 2024 - Week of Discovery of European Cemeteries promoted by ASCE - Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe: from 24 May , a schedule of initiatives supported by Ferrara Tua to enhance the priceless heritage represented by the city's Monumental Cemetery.
A programme to discover the Charterhouse
One of the proposals for discovering the Charterhouse is a series of free guided tours in both Italian and English! This is an excellent opportunity to discover and rediscover the enormous cultural heritage of the Charterhouse of Ferrara through three guided tours: 'Stories of Ferrara', 'The Seven Arts' and 'The Monumental Charterhouse', providing a general overview of the history, roots, artistic and cultural heritage of our monumental cemetery (visits will be held mainly in Italian but an appointment in English is planned).
To enhance the lineup, three musical events will offer unique atmospheres and thrilling notes. The first event, "Piano Estense - Dawn Piano Concert," will take place on Saturday, June 8th, from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. At this dawn concert, young piano talents will create a magical atmosphere in the gardens of the Certosa, with entry from Via Borso, 1.
On June 29th at 8:30 PM, "Carmina Burana in Certosa" will capture the enchantment of sunset with a chamber version of Carl Orff’s work, performed by two grand pianos, four percussionists, and a 60-member choir from the Frescobaldi Conservatory of Ferrara. The event promises to be a profoundly visual and auditory experience, with entry from Viale della Certosa.
The series concludes on July 7th at 6:00 AM with another "Dawn Concert in Certosa," this time featuring pianist Gile Bae. Her solo piano recital will blend with the early morning light, offering a moment of deep connection between music and nature.
