Christmas and New Year in Ferrara: we love it!

The most eagerly awaited time of the year is approaching and excitement is in the air: the magic of Christmas envelops the historic centre, transforming it into an enchanted place that looks like something out of a postcard. This year, more than ever, Ferrara confirms itself as the ideal destination for families wishing to experience the festivities amidst art, good food and a variety of events designed to please young and old alike.

The evocative streets of this UNESCO heritage city will be enhanced by more than 100 km of dazzling illuminations, and on the listone of Piazza Trento e Trieste, from mid-November, the traditional Christmas markets with their characteristic wooden houses. Here you will find an endless array of local handicrafts and, why not... even beautiful last-minute gifts to put under the tree.

Enriching the Christmas atmosphere is the Ferrara Winter Park from 23 November at the Marco Coletta Park, a reference point for family fun with its large skating rink!

Christmas in Ferrara is almost complete, but perhaps something is missing? On 8 December, one of the most eagerly awaited moments: the lighting of the Christmas tree accompanied by the dulcet voices of the Ferrara Gospel Choir Academy to make the atmosphere joyful and sparkling.

As a true magician has his aces up his sleeve, Christmas in Ferrara is no different! Lots of events are scheduled from 7 December to experience the warmth of the festivities with travelling shows, concerts, bagpipes, swing, workshops and much more! On 21 December, a guest of honour: Father Christmas and his village arrive in Piazza del Municipio. In short, you name it!

The New Year's Eve celebration is just as special, with the Fire of the Estense Castle lighting up the stroke of midnight and the arrival of the New Year.
