From 22 December 2022 to 23 April 2023 at the National Archaeological Museum in Ferrara the exhibition 'Spina etrusca. A great port in the Mediterranean', on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Etruscan city built on the Po delta.
Ferrara welcomes a project commemorating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Etruscan city of Spina.
Hosted at the National Archaeological Museum in Ferrara, the 'Spina100' exhibition commemorates the centenary of the discovery of the archaeological site of Spina by retracing the main stages of the process that led to the discovery of the ancient Etruscan city.
The exhibition intends to tell the general public about the role of Spina: the city was in fact a fundamental link in the trade network that connected the main cities of the Mediterranean in the Archaic and Classical periods. Spina was a meeting point for commerce and people, a crossroad of cultures and maintained close relations with Athens and the main centres of ancient Greece.
An exhibition not to be missed to discover the history of the settlements in the Ferrara area through a narrative that uses a contemporary language and relies heavily on technologies for reconstructing ancient landscapes and contexts, creating a highly evocative narrative.
A unique opportunity to admire the richness and beauty of the Etruscan archaeological finds discovered in Spina, witnesses of its economic and commercial prosperity, with important loans from the main Italian archaeological museums and prestigious materials from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The exhibition will be on display at the National Archaeological Museum in Ferrara from 22 December 2022 to 23 April 2023, and during 2023 it will have a stop in Rome at the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia.
