Festival del Ciclista Lento- Slow cycling festival
Who said that whoever finishes first is the happiest? Isn't it better to enjoy the route slow enough to admire the view? ‘Blessed are those who arrive last and know how to enjoy life’ is the motto of this unique and quirky festival, conceived by sports journalist Guido Foddis, which promotes slow cycling. For four years now, in late October, crowds of slow cyclists have invaded the streets of Ferrara and its province in a project that celebrates not the first, but the last. A festival dedicated to those who use the streets and bike paths to pedal slowly, without necessarily having a talent for the sport or an obsession with the stopwatch.
But who are these phantom 'slow-cyclists'? We could call them the classic 'Sunday cyclists', who are disinterested in competition and carefully dodge danger. Those who ride a bike because they simply enjoy doing it, who like fresh air and nature and let others overtake them unbothered. The slow cyclists are basically happy, peaceful and jolly people who stop and order a drink, if they are thirsty and food if they are hungry.
This is an initiative that welcomes you with warmth and irony, along with past and present cycling champions who lend themselves to slowness for fun.
Dear slow cyclists from all over the world: Ferrara is waiting for you every year in late October, don't miss it!
