The Theatre
Facing the Estense Castle there is a place full of charm, a place that has been breathing culture for more than two centuries: the Municipal Theatre of Ferrara. Opened in 1798, it follows the Italian theatrical tradition. With its 990 seats and boxes arranged on five tiers, it is considered one of the best theatres in Italy for its acoustics. The wonderful interior decorations - frescoes and stuccoes - were created by Francesco Migliari in the mid-19th century. In 2014, it was named in honour of one of the most important orchestral directors of our time, Claudio Abbado, who was also the theatre's artistic director for many years.
