A QUALITY MUSEUM. The Natural History Museum of Ferrara has been awarded the status of "Quality Museum" recognised by the Institute for Cultural Heritage of Emilia-Romagna.
AN OLD HOSPITAL. The building that houses the City Museum of Natural History was built where the old city hospital once stood. The area chosen for the building is located a few steps away from the Este Castle and had a hospital function until 1927 when works began to move the hospital to Corso Giovecca. Inside the old hospital complex, the famous poet Torquato Tasso was imprisoned between 1579 and 1586.
1900s QUADRANGLE. The building that houses this wonderful museum fits within what is called the Quadrilatero Novecentista (1900s Quadrangle), characterized by early 20th-century rationalist architecture. Built between 1935 and 1937 by Carlo Savonuzzi, in addition to the museum, it includes the Alda Costa school, Conservatorio Girolamo Frescobaldi and Cinema Boldini.
